American billionaire Elon Musk has stated that he does not wish to purchase the popular app TikTok. This platform has faced attempts at a ban in the USA due to concerns over national security threats.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Bloomberg.

Musk's declaration of disinterest in acquiring TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company Bytedance Ltd., marks his first comment on the subject. This statement was made during a conference in Germany.

"I have not made an offer for TikTok. I have no plans for what I would do if I had TikTok," Musk said while participating remotely via a video shared by the newspaper Die Welt.

Additionally, Musk, who purchased the social network Twitter in 2022, revealed that he does not personally use TikTok.

"I am not trying to acquire TikTok," he assured.

At the same time, Musk explained that the acquisition of Twitter was an exception, motivated by a desire to "preserve freedom of speech."

The entrepreneur also added that he "usually builds companies from scratch."

The Fate of TikTok in the USA

In January, Bloomberg reported that Chinese officials were considering a possibility that would allow Musk, who is close to US President Donald Trump, to acquire American TikTok assets if the company cannot prevent a ban on the app in the States.

According to scenarios presented by Western media, Musk's X (Twitter) could take control of TikTok US and jointly manage the business.

It is worth recalling that on his first day in office, Trump signed an order temporarily halting the forced sale or closure of TikTok. This provided the company and its Chinese parent firm with more time to reach an agreement.

The order was issued just hours after Trump's inauguration, which was attended by Bytedance CEO Shou Chew.

"This order was the latest step in Washington's years-long efforts to ban the app on security grounds," Bloomberg writes.

Trump's Stance on TikTok and the Possibility of Selling the App

It is also noted that Trump, who advocated for a TikTok ban during his first presidential term, changed his mind after the app helped him attract young voters.

"We won the youth vote. I think I won it because of TikTok, so in my heart, there is a warm place for TikTok," Trump said.

This week, Trump also signed a separate order that, according to him, instructed officials to create a sovereign wealth fund for the USA that could be used to facilitate the sale of TikTok.

ByteDance has publicly refused to sell TikTok, although potential buyers have expressed hope that a US Supreme Court decision supporting national security legislation, which forces the company to either sell or shut down its service in the USA, might prompt a reconsideration.

It is important to add that the Chinese government would also need to approve any potential transaction if agreements between the companies regarding the sale are reached.

Furthermore, at the end of January, US President Trump stated that Microsoft is negotiating to purchase TikTok. He also noted that he would like to see a "bidding competition" for the sale of the social media app.

Trump has also mentioned that he is open to the idea of TikTok being purchased by Elon Musk or Larry Ellison as part of a joint venture with the US government.
