The South Korean Parliament has voted to lift the state of martial law.

On Tuesday, December 3rd, the South Korean Parliament passed a resolution urging the repeal of the state of emergency that was declared by President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The South Korean Parliament on Tuesday, December 3, adopted a resolution calling for the repeal of martial law in the country, which was imposed by President Yoon Suk-yeol.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing Yonhap.

A total of 190 lawmakers voted for the repeal of martial law. There are 300 members in the South Korean Parliament.

The office of the Speaker of the National Assembly (the Korean Parliament) stated: "After the adoption of the resolution to repeal martial law, the declaration of martial law is rendered invalid."

It should be noted that under South Korean law, if the Parliament demands the repeal of martial law by a majority vote, the President is obligated to comply.

However, following the imposition of martial law in the country, the military command announced a ban on any political activities, including those of the Parliament.

As a result, voting on the repeal of martial law was not possible, as the Parliament was prohibited from functioning.

Martial Law in South Korea

Recall that on December 3, President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea declared a "state of emergency" in the country. He accused the opposition of controlling the Parliament and paralyzing the government's work through anti-state activities.

During a televised briefing, the President stated that the imposition of martial law was critically important for safeguarding the country's constitutional order.

Later, the military command in South Korea announced a ban on any political activities, including protests.
