The Israeli army conducted an operation during which it targeted aerially facilities linked to the Hezbollah intelligence headquarters in Syria. The head of the group’s intelligence division, Mahmoud Mohammed Shahin, was eliminated.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The military notes that the attack was directed at Hezbollah's central intelligence body, which is responsible for evaluating intelligence information, managing intelligence activities, and, when possible, collecting and identifying intelligence data.

The IDF highlighted that Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters has a branch in Syria, which includes an independent network for collecting, coordinating, and assessing intelligence data. The direct supervisor of the group's intelligence chief is Hassan Ali az-Zaimeh, who was eliminated during a recent operation in the Dahieh area of Beirut.

According to military sources, during the last strike, the head of Hezbollah's intelligence unit in Syria, Mahmoud Mohammed Shahin, was also killed.

He held various positions within the group. In 2007, he headed the Syrian branch of Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters, gaining experience and establishing close working ties with the Syrian regime and officials connected to Iran over the years. In this role, he led the development and deployment of intelligence and air defense resources in coordination with various elements of the Iranian axis.

"Shahin was a significant figure in regional cooperation, and his elimination signifies a further degradation of Hezbollah's intelligence capabilities," the statement noted.

The Israeli military also stated that in recent weeks, the IDF has significantly impaired the operational capacity of the group's intelligence headquarters. Military intelligence assets in Lebanon have been destroyed, and the organization's ability to gather intelligence information has been compromised.

"Strikes on Hezbollah's military intelligence facilities in Syria further contribute to operations in Lebanon, undermining the terrorist organization's intelligence capabilities. With the support of the Syrian regime, Hezbollah jeopardizes the safety of the Syrian civilian population by establishing headquarters and deploying forces in civilian areas across the country," the Israel Defense Forces remarked.

IDF Operations Against Hezbollah

Last Sunday, Israeli forces conducted a ground raid in Syria and captured a citizen of that country involved in Iranian networks. This marked Israel's first operation on Syrian territory during the current war.

The IDF also carried out a naval operation in northern Lebanon. During the raid, the military captured a Hezbollah official responsible for the group's naval operations.

On November 2, Israeli forces eliminated a Hezbollah commander responsible for the initial rocket attacks on Israel on October 8, 2023.
