The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova has approved the results of the referendum regarding the country's accession to the European Union. This outcome will be enshrined in the Constitution.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing Bloomberg.
Six judges of the Constitutional Court of Moldova confirmed by a majority vote that the criteria for recognizing the referendum as valid were met.
This decision paves the way for constitutional amendments and solidifying the course towards the EU, which is the primary objective of the pro-European president of the country, Maia Sandu.
On October 20, the citizens of Moldova voted for the president and expressed their opinions in a referendum on the prospects of the country's accession to the European Union.
In the first round, the incumbent president Maia Sandu emerged victorious.
Sandu's plan to hold the referendum simultaneously with the first round of the presidential elections turned out to be a risky decision, as Russia intensified its disinformation campaign in an attempt to maintain its influence over the country.
The Moldovan government is convinced that Kremlin interference affected the outcome of the referendum, during which only 50.35% supported the country's integration into the EU. Although previous polls showed much broader support for Moldova's EU membership.
In the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday, November 3, Sandu will face pro-Russian candidate Alexander Stoianoglo.
