The occupiers are attempting to establish a "BARS" brigade in Crimea. However, there are few willing participants, which is why local deputies have already been enrolled into it.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing the Telegram channel of the partisan movement "ATESH".
"The agent reports that the occupiers have decided to create an entire brigade 'BARS-Crimea' by the beginning of March 2025. Due to the existing issues with a lack of volunteers for the volunteer battalions, the occupying administrations have been ordered to formally join 'BARS' to promote its popularity," the message states.
Local deputies from the occupying city council of Yalta are already listed in it, but as the partisans clarify, this move has not led to a significant increase in the unit's numbers.
"Mostly, individuals join who have been promised that during their so-called service, they will be able to engage in the confiscation of property from people who have temporarily left the occupied territories. There are also those who hope to earn what they consider to be substantial money, naively believing they can remain safe in the rear," noted "ATESH".
Combat Army Reserve Special RF (BARS) is a project of the mobilization human reserve of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Reservists have been recruited since the fall of 2021, prior to the invasion of Ukraine.
Up to 30 numbered battalions have been formed, totaling around 20,000 individuals. Their numbers and armaments vary.
The Crimean Peninsula was occupied by Russian troops in 2014. Since then, locations have been organized in Crimea to house military assets for both equipment and personnel.
It was previously reported that Russia is preparing mercenaries from Africa and Cuba in Crimea for the war in Ukraine. The occupiers defend them with children from the "Yunarmiya".
