The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are attempting to develop "Shaheds" with artificial intelligence. Their goal is to create swarms of drones.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Guardian.
The Russians are working on creating swarms of UAVs in which drones can communicate and coordinate attacks to suppress Ukrainian air defense.
The publication states that Russia has already established two factories for producing the distinctive delta-winged drones known as Shahed 136, which are referred to in Moscow as "Geran-2."
According to a source in the government in Kyiv, drone production is at "hundreds per week."
At the same time, The Guardian noted that Russia is continuously modifying the drones in an effort to make them more lethal. Earlier this month, Ukrainian military released a video of a thermobaric warhead, which creates a fireball with temperatures around 2000°C upon detonation and is considered especially deadly when it explodes inside buildings.
Moreover, the publication reports that work is underway to implement artificial intelligence for creating "drone swarms" in which the "Shaheds" communicate and coordinate attacks to overcome air defense.
However, it remains unclear how effective this development might be.
Recall that last night, the Russians launched yet another drone attack on the capital.
All drones launched by the Russian occupiers towards Kyiv during the airstrike were shot down by air defense forces.
RBK-Ukraine reported that air defense is active in the Kyiv region due to enemy kamikaze drones. Following this, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv as well.
By around half-past five, explosions could be heard in Kyiv amid the enemy drone attack. The military warned of enemy UAV movements towards the capital.
