The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, has a more measured stance on Russia's war against Ukraine than is commonly believed. He will not pursue peace against the will of the Ukrainians.
This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as reported by RBK-Ukraine referring to Barron’s.
Scholz mentioned that he had a "surprising, yet detailed and good" conversation with Trump on Sunday. They discussed the situation regarding the war in Ukraine.
According to the Chancellor, he got the impression that Trump "holds a more balanced position than is generally assumed." Scholz believes that Trump "will not go over the heads of the Ukrainians" to achieve peace.
At the same time, the head of the German government assured that his country would not agree to peace in Ukraine "under coercion."
Recall that Olaf Scholz today also held his first negotiations in two years with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
During the dialogue, the Chancellor urged the Kremlin leader to withdraw his troops from Ukraine, end the war, and begin peace negotiations. Additionally, as noted by the German Cabinet, Scholz had warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about such a conversation.
However, the Ukrainian leader himself criticized Scholz's call. According to him, it is a "Pandora's box."
