U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to conclude the war in the Gaza Strip before he potentially takes office in the White House.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Times of Israel.
According to sources from the publication, Trump has repeatedly called on Israel to swiftly end the conflict; however, this is the first time a timeline has been included in his request.
As stated by a former official from the Republican administration and an Israeli official, the presidential candidate's appeal was first made during his meeting with Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in July of this year.
Additionally, the former American official noted that Trump was not specific in his communication with Netanyahu and might support Israel's "residual" activity in the Gaza Strip if Tel Aviv officially concludes the war.
Meanwhile, just recently, the Israeli Prime Minister claimed during a faction meeting that his country is not yet at the stage of concluding the war. Specifically, Tel Aviv cannot agree to Hamas's demand to cease hostilities in exchange for 101 hostages.
"Trump himself warned at the National Republican Convention in July that those holding American hostages abroad would 'pay a very high price' if they are not released before he takes office," the publication notes.
The presidential elections in the U.S. are scheduled for November 5. The main contenders for the position are Donald Trump from the Republican Party and Kamala Harris, representing the Democratic Party.
According to the latest polls, Trump holds a slight advantage in the ratings over Harris. At the same time, a Bloomberg study shows that their chances remain roughly equal in seven key states that could determine the election results.
RBK-Ukraine has prepared a detailed analysis of the candidates and their positions.
