U.S. presidential candidate and Republican Donald Trump claimed that police representatives have allegedly been dispatched to the polling areas in Philadelphia and Detroit. Local authorities are denying the assertions regarding the increased law enforcement presence in those areas.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing CNN.
According to Matt Friedman, spokesperson for the Detroit Elections Department, they "are not aware of any police presence in the city during the elections, apart from what was noted at the press conference last Thursday and widely reported across the country."
A spokesperson for the Detroit mayor's office also stated that they do not understand what Trump meant in his post on Truth Social: "Philadelphia and Detroit! There are strong law enforcement forces!!!"
As Daniel Baxter, the Chief Operating Officer for elections in Detroit, told reporters, "nothing has changed" regarding police presence and planning for events at the main absentee ballot counting center in downtown Huntington Place.
Last week, he informed journalists that Detroit "has developed and maintains a comprehensive security plan" in partnership with local and federal law enforcement agencies as early voting began.
This statement followed Trump’s previous post in which he falsely claimed that there is "massive fraud" occurring in Philadelphia.
At that time, a bipartisan group of officials in Philadelphia had already stated that Trump’s claims are baseless.
It was previously reported that amid the U.S. presidential elections, Washington and over 20 states are deploying military personnel to protect election commissions and government buildings from potential protests and violent unrest from Trump supporters after the elections.
Additionally, prior to this, police in Washington were setting up high barriers around the White House, the Capitol, and Kamala Harris's residence.
