It is unlikely that the newly elected U.S. president will take any steps regarding Ukraine immediately after the elections on November 5. The impact will only be felt after the inauguration, which is scheduled for January 20.
This is stated in the material by RBC-Ukraine "Harris or Trump? How the U.S. election results will affect Ukraine".
The head of the "Institute of American Studies," analyst at "Internews-Ukraine" Vladislav Faraponov notes that Ukraine needs to engage with both parties in both chambers of the U.S. Congress and prepare for any scenarios. This applies to both presidential and congressional elections.
"Should we expect any decisions from the elected president immediately after November 5? I think significant decisions in the classical sense will not happen," the analyst said.
He believes there will be some hints towards Ukraine and the possibility to prepare for new scenarios during the power transition.
"As for Trump's statements about 'ending the war' before taking office, I think there may be some informal steps. However, assessing the realism of this plan is currently difficult," Faraponov noted.
According to the expert from the Foreign Policy Council "Ukrainian Prism," Alexander Kraev, Ukraine will realistically feel the results of the American elections after the inauguration on January 20.
"We see the main focus of our diplomacy is that while Biden still has a mandate, he will not be electorally or politically constrained, allowing us to intensify our support on issues like NATO membership and long-range weapons during this period. We have 76 days between November 5 and January 20 to achieve as much as circumstances allow.
Let us remind you that presidential elections will take place in the U.S. on November 5. The candidates for this position are the current Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
The results of the U.S. elections depend on seven battleground states. In each of these states, Harris and Trump's ratings are nearly equal. The most critical state for the candidates is Pennsylvania, with 19 electoral votes. Next are Michigan and Georgia, each with 16, North Carolina with 15, Arizona with 11, Wisconsin with 10, and Nevada with 6.
According to the latest poll, Harris is leading Trump in support levels in the so-called "swing" states. She has an advantage in four out of seven states.
