The Lithuanian Parliament will consider a bill that prohibits military service for Lithuanians with dual citizenship in Russia or Belarus. The document was developed with the participation of Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing LRT.
Under the initiative, Lithuanians who hold citizenship of Russia or Belarus will not be allowed to serve in professional military roles, in Volunteer Forces, or in any other forms of voluntary or mandatory military service.
Moreover, if a Lithuanian currently serving in the military acquires citizenship of Russia or Belarus, they will be discharged from service.
According to Defense Minister Kasčiūnas, there is a risk to information security related to the defense system, which such individuals can access.
Additionally, due to potential ties with Russia or Belarus, such personnel may independently engage in destructive activities against Lithuania.
Incidentally, earlier Lithuanian military personnel were prohibited from visiting Russia, Belarus, or temporarily occupied parts of Ukraine.
This is explained by the fact that some military members may work with classified or top-secret information.
