If Kamala Harris wins the U.S. presidential election, a potential issue could be her lack of a clear foreign policy strategy. This may lead to a degree of passivity, which could specifically impact assistance to Ukraine.
This is discussed in a piece by RBK-Ukraine "Harris or Trump? How the U.S. Election Results Will Affect Ukraine".
As noted by the head of the "Institute of American Studies" and analyst at "Internews-Ukraine," Vladislav Faraponov, Harris has clearly articulated her desire to see Russia defeated and has promised to continue Joe Biden's policy of supporting Ukraine.
According to him, these are rational expectations since Harris is indeed part of the current administration.
"However, to confidently assert this, we need more specifics from her directly, as well as from those who may hold key positions in her administration. Many in Washington are currently paying attention to this. It’s one thing who becomes president and another who becomes an advisor, and so on," the analyst added.
In turn, expert from the Foreign Policy Council "Ukrainian Prism," Alexander Kraev, points out that the situation with Harris is not as straightforward as it seems.
He states that she is more predictable, more institutional (willing to work within established contacts), but the lack of a clear foreign policy strategy could be problematic.
"All this may lead to a certain passivity and an even more cautious foreign policy. In the case of Ukraine, this is just as bad as Trump's chaotic approach. It is clear that under her, the U.S. will continue its support. But will we actually see a decisive stance, new solutions, and qualitatively new support? That’s the question," the expert believes.
Recall that on November 5, the U.S. will hold presidential elections. The candidates for this position are the current Vice President Kamala Harris and former American leader Donald Trump.
The results of the U.S. elections depend on seven battleground states. In each of these states, the ratings of Harris and Trump are nearly equal. The most crucial state for the candidates is Pennsylvania, with 19 electoral votes. Next are Michigan and Georgia, each with 16, North Carolina with 15, Arizona with 11, Wisconsin with 10, and Nevada with 6.
