The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, has arrived in Ukraine for an official visit. He will meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky, and an agreement to expand military assistance to Ukraine is expected to be signed.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Guardian.

It is anticipated that the British Prime Minister will discuss with Zelensky what security guarantees the UK can offer Kyiv, including the possibility of British troops participating in post-war peacekeeping forces.

"Putin's ambitions to sever Ukraine from its closest partners have suffered a tremendous strategic defeat. Instead, we have grown closer than ever, and this partnership will elevate our friendship to a new level," Starmer stated the day before.

As a result of the visit, Ukraine and the UK will sign a partnership agreement to deepen existing defense relations, along with proposals for further military assistance to Kyiv. These agreements come amid concerns that with the arrival of Donald Trump, the US may begin to withdraw support for Ukraine.

Funding will be directed towards enterprises supporting the "green" economy, as well as marginalized groups, including women and veterans.

The publication notes that Starmer intends to announce the allocation of £40 million to Ukraine for economic recovery, which will create opportunities for British companies.

This continues the £12.8 billion in support that the UK has already provided to Ukraine, including £7.8 billion in military aid and ongoing support for Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

However, the timeline for the announced assistance remains unknown.

Deployment of Peacekeepers to Ukraine

Recall that on January 9, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the upcoming visit of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Kyiv. He noted that the meeting will discuss the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine.

Zelensky also mentioned that the idea of deploying peacekeepers has been discussed with partners in the Baltic states and will also be addressed with Starmer.

According to media reports, Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are already discussing sending their troops to participate in the peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine.
