Стармер предложит Европе увеличить свою ответственность в сфере обороны, сообщает Bloomberg.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will visit Brussels today for an informal meeting of the European Council. He will urge leaders to take on a greater share of responsibility for the defense and security of the continent against the increased threats from Moscow, as well as to continue providing military support to Ukraine.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Bloomberg.

"I am here to work with our European partners on maintaining pressure on revenues from energy sources and the companies supplying its missile factories to diminish Putin's military machine," Starmer is expected to say in his speech.

He will also present an ambitious partnership between Britain and the EU in the field of defense and security. The aim is to enhance cooperation in combating common threats, cross-border crime, and illegal migration.

Bloomberg notes that the EU, the UK, and the US have imposed economic sanctions against Moscow in an attempt to strike at the Russian economy. However, directives from US President Donald Trump to suspend and reassess foreign aid, along with his desire to quickly end the war, have raised concerns about how long the US will continue to support Kyiv and exert pressure on the military budget of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Russia's War Against NATO

Recall that yesterday NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that NATO countries must prepare for war and increase their defense spending. Otherwise, Russia "might try something similar to what it did in Ukraine."

He also announced that the future defense spending quota for NATO countries will exceed 2% of GDP. A decision regarding the contribution size will be made in the coming months, potentially ranging from 3% to 3.5%.
