Canada may deliver the promised NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine by the end of the year. The order was placed back in 2023.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Telegram.
The head of the Ukrainian state mentioned that he had a phone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In particular, the Canadian leader confirmed his support for Ukraine's victory plan.
The two sides also discussed further cooperation to organize a second world summit and to involve countries from the Global South in this effort.
"Furthermore, the Prime Minister informed about the shipment of the first NASAMS air defense system ordered by Canada for Ukraine. We expect to receive it by the end of the current year," Zelensky wrote.
He added that the discussions also covered ongoing defense support for Ukraine and the situation on the battlefield, including the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the war. Cooperation was also coordinated within the framework of Canada's G7 presidency.
Recall that in 2023, Canada joined the U.S. initiative to order NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine.
However, later the company Kongsberg, which is involved in the production of the systems, stated that Canada had not signed a contract with them. As a result, production was delayed.
At the beginning of September this year, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced that his country would transfer NASAMS to Ukraine in early 2025.
