The German Research Center for Geosciences indicated that the underground shocks occurred at a depth of 10 km, initially rated at 6.89 on the Richter scale.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.6 and was also at a depth of 10 km.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning System reported that a tsunami warning is in effect for the Caribbean Sea and northern Honduras following the earthquake. The agency also noted that no tsunami is expected along the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico coastlines of the U.S.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning System has also issued a tsunami warning for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Currently, it is unclear whether the tremors were felt or if there was any damage on land.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), these are the strongest tremors in the region since 2021, when a 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Haiti.
