On Thursday morning, the transitional administration in Syria announced the death of 14 police officers. They were killed by forces loyal to the ousted Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Guardian.

According to the new authorities, the killings occurred as a result of an "ambush" set by forces loyal to the ousted regime. The incident took place in the rural area of Tartus.

This happened while demonstrations and a nighttime curfew in other locations have turned into the largest unrest since the ousting of Assad's regime more than two weeks ago.

Additionally, the new Minister of Interior of Syria stated on Telegram that another 10 police officers were injured by "remnants" of Assad's government in Tartus. In response, he promised to take strict measures against "anyone who dares to undermine the security of Syria or endanger the lives of its citizens."

The Guardian reports that earlier, the Syrian police imposed a nighttime curfew in the city of Homs following riots linked to demonstrations that, according to local residents, were led by representatives of religious minorities - Alawites and Shiites.

It is worth noting that recently it became known that Syrian authorities have reached an agreement with rebel groups regarding their disbandment. The factions will merge into a single organization under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense.

At the same time, the Kurdish group "Syrian Democratic Forces," supported by the U.S., did not join this agreement.
