The US believes Iran is exploring methods for rapidly developing a nuclear bomb, according to the New York Times.

Recent intelligence reports regarding Iran's nuclear program have convinced U.S. officials that a covert team of Iranian scientists is exploring a more expedited and rudimentary method for developing atomic weapons.
Согласно NYT, в США полагают, что Иран исследует методы ускоренного производства ядерного оружия.

New intelligence regarding Iran's nuclear program has convinced American officials that a secret team of Iranian scientists is exploring a faster method for developing atomic weapons, which is also more crude.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The New York Times.

The intelligence data was collected in recent months during Joe Biden's administration and subsequently passed to the national security team of President Donald Trump. The publication notes that this is occurring against the backdrop of signals indicating that Iran's new president is actively seeking dialogue with the Trump administration.

U.S. intelligence warns that Iranian engineers and weapon developers are looking for a shortcut that would allow them to convert their growing stockpiles of nuclear fuel into functional weapons in a matter of months, rather than a year or more, but only if Tehran decides to change its current approach.

American officials have stated that they continue to believe that Iran and its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have not made a decision to develop weapons.

According to officials, Iran is on the brink of creating nuclear weapons. In the years since Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal, the country has resumed uranium extraction and now has enough fuel to make four or more bombs.

However, this is not sufficient for actual weapon production, and new evidence focuses on the final steps Iran needs to take to convert fuel into weapons.

According to the publication, this evidence will almost certainly be part of the discussion on Tuesday, February 4, between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Iran's Nuclear Program

Recall that earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Iran is ramping up its nuclear program, approaching a point of no return. In his view, Tehran represents one of the largest strategic challenges and threats to the security of Europe and its allies.

According to Bloomberg, Iran has enough materials to create several nuclear warheads. It only remains for the country to make the appropriate political decision.
