The South Korean authorities do not plan to lift the state of emergency, despite the parliamentary resolution. A decision from President Yoon Suk-yeol is required for its cancellation.
This information comes from RBK-Ukraine citing YTN.
According to the publication, it has access to the official position of the South Korean Ministry of Defense regarding the parliament's resolution calling on the president to lift the state of emergency.
Specifically, the Ministry of Defense intends to maintain the state of emergency in the country.
"As long as the president does not tell us otherwise, we will continue to keep the state of emergency in place," YTN quotes the agency's statement.
Recall that today, December 3rd, President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea decided to impose a state of emergency in the country. He explained that this step is necessary to "eliminate anti-state elements."
At the same time, the South Korean authorities prohibited political activities. In particular, this includes the work of the National Assembly (parliament).
However, despite this, the parliament convened and passed a resolution by a majority vote calling on the president to lift the state of emergency. According to the South Korean constitution, this obligates the head of state to revoke the corresponding decree.
