As of today, Ukraine meets one-third of its weapon needs domestically. Less than one-third is supplied by Europe, while around 40% comes from the USA.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing an interview with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Polish media.
When asked if he was disappointed with the gradual model of military assistance from the USA that was in place during Joe Biden's presidency, Zelensky responded that he could not act alone.
"Today, 33-34% of weapons in Ukraine are of Ukrainian production. Less than 30% comes from Europe, while the USA accounts for about 40%. That's roughly how it looks. I am grateful for what Biden has done. You know how American politics works: the president cannot do everything alone; you know what happened in Congress (referring to the blockage of a multi-billion dollar package at the beginning of 2024, - ed.)," he noted.
According to him, the alliance between Europe and the USA has greatly assisted Ukraine.
"But I won't say how much, for example, we are lacking in air defense systems and why we can't receive more Patriot systems from the USA. I truly cannot understand that. Maybe I am missing something, but I know that, unfortunately, people are dying," Zelensky added.
As a reminder, Zelensky previously mentioned the current strength of the Ukrainian army. According to him, it consists of 880,000 personnel, while there are about 600,000 Russian occupiers in Ukraine. The enemy has numerical superiority in certain areas of the front because they are primarily concentrated in the east, while the Defense Forces are protecting all of Ukraine.
Additionally, today the president answered questions about the possible introduction of foreign contingents into Ukraine. So far, this idea has been discussed in general terms with France and the Baltic countries, and it is likely that the deployment of such forces will be discussed with the United Kingdom in the near future.
Zelensky asserts that a Western military contingent could only be part of the security guarantees for Ukraine.
