The Trump administration directed the Pentagon to lift restrictions on bomb supplies for Israel, according to Axios.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to lift restrictions on the supply of heavy aerial bombs to Israel. The Pentagon has already received the corresponding order.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the agency Axios.

As three Israeli officials told Axios, the Trump administration has chosen to revoke the ban imposed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, on the delivery of 2000-pound (approximately 900 kg) aerial bombs to Israel. Axios reminds that this ban triggered one of the largest crises in U.S.-Israel relations during the Gaza war last May.

According to an Israeli official, the Israeli government received notification from the Pentagon about the lifting of the restriction on Friday, January 24. It is expected that 1,800 MK-84 bombs, which have been stored in the U.S., will be loaded onto a ship and delivered to Israel in the coming days.

Axios also noted that the Biden administration, when implementing the restrictions, was guided by concerns that the use of these heavy aerial bombs could result in significant civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip.

War and Ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

In October 2023, Hamas militants launched an attack from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory. This brief incursion, accompanied by mass killings, led to a full-scale war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Over time, the conflict also spread to neighboring Lebanon.

However, in January of this year, with the mediation of the U.S., Qatar, and other countries, a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas. The ceasefire took effect last Sunday, January 19, after Hamas militants released several Israeli hostages.
