Today, Belarus held the so-called presidential "elections," where, as expected, the self-proclaimed leader Alexander Lukashenko will be declared the "winner" once again. However, the Belarusian people had no real choice.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine, referencing a post by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on social media platform X.

"The people of Belarus had no choice. This is a bitter day for all who yearn for freedom and democracy. Instead of free and fair elections, and a life without fear and arbitrariness, they face oppression, repression, and human rights violations every day," she wrote.

Baerbock added that more than 1,200 people in Belarus remain imprisoned solely because they had the courage to express their opinions.

"We will not forget them. All political prisoners must be released, and the brutal repression must end. We deeply respect Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the brave Belarusians. They demonstrate to us how crucial the struggle for our democracy in Europe is," the publication states.

The German Foreign Minister also mentioned that for a democratic and free Belarus, the European family keeps its doors open.

We remind you that today, the leader of the Belarusian opposition, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, was asked when a change of power might occur in Belarus. According to her, windows of opportunity may arise in the event of a Ukrainian victory, economic troubles in Belarus due to sanctions, or concerning Lukashenko's health.

At the same time, she emphasized that the task of democratic forces and the Belarusians themselves is to be prepared for that moment.
