U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering the purchase of Greenland, which is currently part of Denmark. This is a "priority" for him.

According to RBK-Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated this in an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly.

Rubio emphasized that Trump's comments regarding the security situation in the Arctic region, where Greenland is located, are "no joke."

"This is not about acquiring land for the sake of acquiring land. It is in our national interest, and this issue needs to be addressed. Trump has declared his intention to do this, specifically to acquire it," noted the U.S. Secretary of State.

At the same time, he refrained from speculating on whether Trump would succeed in gaining control over Greenland during his presidency.

"Clearly, this is a priority for the president, who has made this issue significant. I think you can be assured that in four years, our interests in the Arctic will be better protected," added Rubio.

Trump Wants to Acquire Greenland

It is worth noting that elected U.S. President Donald Trump aims to make Greenland a part of the United States, and he does not rule out the use of force to persuade Denmark.

For centuries, the island has been under Danish control (formerly as a colony, now as a semi-sovereign territory within the Kingdom of Denmark). Greenland is subject to the Danish constitution, which means any change in its legal status would require amendments.

Earlier reports indicated that Denmark privately sent proposals regarding Greenland to Trump's team. Copenhagen does not intend to "sell" the island but is willing to discuss other requests from Washington.

Trump's national security advisor, Mike Waltz, stated that he is considering various options for control over Greenland.

Additionally, Trump's allies introduced a bill for the "purchase of Greenland", proposing to allow him to begin negotiations as soon as he officially takes office on January 20.

Meanwhile, Denmark is doing everything possible to deal with Trump. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has sought to rally support from European allies by making a swift tour of Berlin, Paris, and Berlin, aiming to demonstrate unity while avoiding escalating tensions.
