On Sunday, January 27, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an introductory phone conversation. Both leaders discussed the challenges faced by their nations.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing CNN.
According to the Pentagon's statement, the leaders talked about shared security priorities and the current threats facing both countries.
Hegseth, for his part, emphasized the commitment of the U.S. under President Donald Trump to provide Israel with self-defense capabilities. Following the conversation, both representatives agreed to maintain close communication in the future.
"The conversation between Hegseth and Netanyahu underscores the U.S. commitment to Israel, especially in light of ongoing security threats and the continuing war with HAMAS," CNN summarizes.
Recall that on January 25, Axios reported that the administration of President Donald Trump lifted restrictions on the supply of heavy aerial bombs to Israel. The corresponding directive has already been received by the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon).
