Sweden has allocated a record aid package for Ukraine. Part of the funds will be directed towards weapon production in Ukraine under the "Danish model."
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing Facebook posts from Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
According to him, Sweden announced a new record military aid package of $1.2 billion, which is the largest in the country’s history.
"$178 million will be allocated to support the production of armaments in Ukraine under the 'Danish model', specifically $90 million for long-range missiles and drones," he noted.
Additionally, Ukraine will receive extra CB90 combat boats to bolster its navy, as well as anti-tank missiles, trucks, ammunition, and other equipment essential for Ukraine's defense.
As early as November last year, it was reported that Ukraine and Denmark are coordinating a new investment initiative called "Danish Model 2.0". This initiative aims to enhance cooperation in weapon manufacturing and technology development.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense explained that the "Danish model" involves direct funding of Ukrainian defense enterprises by the governments of other countries, which allows for strengthening defense capabilities while supporting the economy.
"Thanks to this approach, the production of critically important weapons has already been funded, including self-propelled artillery systems 'Bogdana'," the ministry noted at that time.
On January 30, it became known that Sweden will provide Ukraine with the largest military aid package. Its value amounts to 13.5 billion Swedish kronor (approximately $1.25 billion).
In particular, this package will enhance Ukraine's long-range capabilities. Sweden plans to allocate around 1 billion Swedish kronor to enable Ukraine to produce long-range missiles and drones.
It is worth noting that in the summer of 2024, Sweden will join the cooperation on unmanned aerial vehicles for Ukraine, better known as the International Drone Coalition.
