The President of Finland stated that Putin only understands firm communication, similar to how Trump addressed him.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin should be compelled to engage in negotiations, much like President Donald Trump does, rather than being persuaded to do so.
Президент Финляндии отметил, что Путин реагирует только на жесткие переговоры, подобные тем, что вел Трамп.

The Russian dictator Vladimir Putin needs to be compelled to negotiate, as President Donald Trump does, rather than be persuaded to do so.

This was stated by Finnish President Alexander Stubb, according to RBK-Ukraine referencing Yle.

Stubb expresses cautious optimism regarding Trump's efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine. He suggested that a ceasefire might be possible in Ukraine within the coming months.

"Initially, there will be efforts to establish a ceasefire, which will take about three to six months, followed by peace negotiations," said the Finnish president.

According to him, in the upcoming months and days, Ukraine needs to be supported in a way that ensures it has a strong position for any future negotiations.

Regarding the likelihood of seating Putin at the negotiation table, Stubb believes that he needs to be compelled to engage in dialogue rather than simply persuaded. The Finnish president noted Trump's approach, which involved issuing an ultimatum to Russia.

"Personally, I think that Putin only understands tough rhetoric. And it's exactly in this language that Donald Trump is currently addressing him," Stubb pointed out.

He is also convinced that there are no risks in discussing peace in Ukraine without the participation of Ukraine itself.

According to the Finnish president, Europe should also be involved in this dialogue in one form or another, as it concerns the future of European security structures.

Possible Negotiations Between Russia and Ukraine

It is worth noting that after his inauguration, U.S. President Donald Trump called on dictator Vladimir Putin to sit down for negotiations to end the full-scale war. Otherwise, he would take tough measures to compel Moscow to comply.

Putin, for his part, complained that Kiev has prohibited dialogue with Russia.

During his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump promised to work towards achieving a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. He also mentioned that he would like China to participate in the peace process.

Additionally, the U.S. president indicated that he wants to meet with Putin to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
