The capabilities of U.S. President Donald Trump to intensify pressure on Vladimir Putin remain substantial. A top priority should be the reduction of Moscow's oil and gas revenues.

This was stated in a comment to RBK-Ukraine by the Ukrainian President’s Commissioner for Sanctions Policy, Vladislav Vlasюк.

"These are tariff restrictions - increasing duties on Russian metals, fertilizers, and other goods. Strengthening secondary sanctions against companies that assist Russia in circumventing restrictions, blocking new banks, confiscating assets, and limiting access to critical technologies should also be part of the strategy. Further sanctions are a key lever to compel the Kremlin to engage in fair negotiations," Vlasюк enumerates.

However, he noted that the priority should be to reduce Russia's oil and gas revenues by countering the shadow fleet, implementing stricter controls on price caps, and increasing the cost of extraction.

Recall that after his inauguration, Trump threatened Russia with new tariffs, duties, and sanctions if Putin did not cease the war against Ukraine.

As stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, if Trump wants to force Putin to come to peace, he will succeed. According to Zelensky, Trump’s rhetoric towards Putin and negotiations is justified.

Additionally, on February 2, Trump announced that his administration has scheduled a series of meetings and negotiations, particularly with Ukraine, Russia, and "various parties."
