In Belarus, on the morning of January 26, the so-called presidential "elections" commenced, with the self-proclaimed president Alexander Lukashenko once again participating. Voting stations have opened across the country.
This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the website "Belarus Today".
It is known that a total of 5,325 voting stations have been established. They opened at 8:00 local time and will operate until 20:00.
According to the publication, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has a service on its website for finding a voting station. This means that by providing the necessary information, any voter can find out where their voting station is located. At the same time, it was emphasized that each voter must vote in person; voting on behalf of others is not allowed.
The CEC chairman, Igor Karpenko, stated that during the "elections," international observers are allegedly monitoring the electoral process in all regions. The most "numerous" mission of observers is from the CIS, with the second-largest mission being from the SCO.
Furthermore, it is claimed that representatives and leaders from the CEC of CIS countries and far abroad are present. There are also claims of individual "experts" representing almost all continents (except Australia) and 17 Western European countries.
The publication reports that a press conference by CEC chairman Igor Karpenko on the "preliminary results of the voting in the presidential elections of the Republic of Belarus" is scheduled for January 27, from 2:30 to 3:00.
On the same day, Monday, January 27, at 11:00, a final press conference by the CEC on the "preliminary results of the presidential elections of the Republic of Belarus" will take place.
The publication added that from January 21 to 25, Belarus held so-called early "voting." Allegedly, 41.81% of citizens included in the voting lists participated.
It is worth noting that President Alexander Lukashenko has been governing Belarus for over 30 years, and this is his seventh so-called "election."
Recently, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that Ukraine does not consider the early elections in Belarus to be democratic and transparent. As spokesperson Georgiy Tikhiy mentioned, Kyiv supports the Belarusian people's desire for freedom.
Later, on January 24, the EU reacted to the "elections," stating that the European bloc considers them a "fraud".
"This process is absolutely undemocratic. These elections are a complete sham. It’s not an election if you already know who will win," said EU spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy Anitta Hipper.
