In recent years, women have increasingly begun to pursue "traditionally male" professions. For instance, by 2024, around 300 women are already employed as machinists.
This was shared by Julia Zhovtyak, the director of the State Employment Service, in an interview with RBK-Ukraine.
According to her, women are mastering professions such as tractor drivers, crane operators, forklift drivers, CNC machine operators, and milling machine operators. They are also entering the construction sector.
"We are indeed observing that women are more frequently opting for 'traditionally male' professions. For example, in 2024, about 300 women are employed as machinists, 128 as crane operators, and nearly 200 women have received vouchers for training in the tractor driver profession," Zhovtyak stated.
She noted that under the free training program for women in "traditionally male" professions, the government covers training costs up to 30,000 hryvnias.
As a result, Ukrainian women will be able to master over 30 professions and find employment in fields where they have been underrepresented, particularly in the most sought-after areas by employers. This also allows businesses to prepare the necessary specialists they currently lack.
"I personally tried operating a John Deere tractor at one of our training centers. For instance, the power steering is much more powerful than in a car. The control panel is a computer. If a person has a driver's license, it is absolutely feasible to master this equipment in two to three months," Zhovtyak explains.
Currently, there is an increased demand from employers specifically for these specialties.
"Ukrainians want to work, but their professional skills do not always match the needs of employers. I reiterate, we have a significant shortage of qualified workers," Zhovtyak mentioned.
At present, it is more challenging to find jobs for economists, lawyers, civil service specialists, data entry operators, librarians, and postal workers. There is a lack of demand from employers for these roles, resulting in a significant number of job seekers in these fields.
Earlier, we reported that military personnel currently earn the highest salaries in Ukraine. However, within the non-military sector, IT professionals continue to earn the most.
