Another incident involving damage to an underwater cable occurred in the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Sweden. Lithuania has emphasized the urgent need to review navigation rules and combat shadow fleets.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing a statement from Lithuania's Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys.

"Today, another case of damage to an underwater cable was recorded in the Baltic Sea, this time between Latvia and Sweden. Lithuania takes such reports very seriously," the minister stressed.

Budrys stated that the number of accidents occurring in such a short period makes it difficult to continue believing in the theory of coincidence.

"Navigation rules in the Baltic Sea need to be reassessed, especially regarding the use of anchors. The shadow fleet is not only an issue of circumventing sanctions. It's a more significant concern that threatens our environment and critical infrastructure," the minister emphasized.

He also expressed his anticipation for the substantive discussions scheduled for tomorrow in Brussels.

"This situation requires prompt solutions," Budrys underscored.

Recall that on the morning of Sunday, January 26, an underwater fiber optic cable belonging to the "Latvian State Radio and Television Center" (LVRTC) was damaged in the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Sweden.

In November of last year, damage to underwater cables was also recorded in the Baltic Sea.

There were suspicions of Russian involvement in these incidents; however, a week ago, it became known that according to US and European intelligence, the damage to the underwater cables was a result of maritime accidents, rather than Russian sabotage.
