In the city of Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region (Russia), explosions were reported during the night of January 29, coinciding with the detection of drones. According to preliminary information, a refinery was hit, resulting in a fire.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing local Telegram channels.
The explosions in the Kstovo area occurred shortly after midnight. According to Russian media, residents of the city complained about drones.
Additionally, Russian networks discussed the operation of air defense systems in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Later, footage appeared online showing a fire, allegedly at the "Lukoil - Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez" refinery located in Kstovo.
Monitoring channels suggest that this facility was the target of the drone attack. Unconfirmed reports indicate that this refinery was struck by UAVs.
The Telegram channel Mash reports, citing accounts from Kstovo residents, that "the air defense engaged several drones in the sky, and a fire is now visible in the area of the facility."
Later, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, stated on his Telegram that "as a result of repelling the UAV attack on one of the enterprises in the Kstovo industrial zone, debris from the drone fell."
"Firefighters are currently tackling the blaze, and preliminary reports indicate that there are no casualties," the Russian official said.
The city of Kstovo is located on the right bank of the Volga River, 29 km from Nizhny Novgorod. The distance to the Ukrainian border is approximately 800 km.
As noted by the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation (CPD) under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andrey Kovalenko, in response to reports of explosions in Kstovo, this is not the first attack on the local refinery.
"The smaller the refinery, the less fuel and other resources the Russians have," his publication on Telegram stated.
For instance, last March, UAVs attacked the refinery in the city of Kstovo in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia. At that time, a large fire broke out at the site.
Later, Western media reported that operations at least half of the production of the "Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez" (NORSI) refinery in Kstovo were halted as a result of the drone attack. The cause was a malfunction of the crude oil processing unit "AVT-6."
It is worth noting that recently, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, mentioned that strikes on Russian territory are affecting the combat capabilities of Russian troops. The general noted that in recent months, the consumption rates of artillery ammunition in the enemy's army have effectively halved.
Additionally, according to the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation (CPD) Andrey Kovalenko, strikes by Ukrainian Defense Forces on Russian oil depots have already yielded results. He explained that currently, during offensives at the front, Russia relies more on infantry.
