Zelensky clarified to Fico the true cost of Russian gas.

In a message to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the cost of energy resources from the aggressor country. He stated that purchasing gas from Russia comes at a price that is paid not only in monetary terms but also in terms of sovereignty.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressed the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, regarding the price of energy resources from the aggressor country. He pointed out that when purchasing gas from Russia, nations must pay not only with money but also with their sovereignty.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing the Ukrainian president's Telegram channel.

In his public address to the head of the Slovak government, Zelensky discussed the possibility for European countries to purchase gas from the United States without the risk of becoming politically dependent on the state that sells energy resources.

"For the current Prime Minister of Slovakia's information, a few days ago President Trump (U.S. President Donald Trump) made a strong decision that will significantly increase the export of American LNG (liquefied natural gas) to Europe. This is essential for security and stability - more energy resources from partners for Europe," the president stated in his publication.

Zelensky emphasized that for American liquefied natural gas, "one must pay with money, but for Russian gas, one has to pay not only with money but also with independence and sovereignty."

"Many in Europe have already gone through this and chose to maintain their independence and sovereignty. But not Mr. Fico. He chooses Moscow over America and other partners who can provide his country with gas on commercial terms," the President of Ukraine explained.

Zelensky believes this is a mistake on the part of the Slovak Prime Minister.

"Everyone in Europe needs to be forward-thinking and develop relationships that strengthen our nations," President Zelensky concluded in his statement.

It is noteworthy that Zelensky's address to Fico was essentially a response to the sharp remarks made by the Slovak Prime Minister regarding the President of Ukraine.

What Fico said about Zelensky

In his statements on January 28, Fico claimed that Zelensky is "harming" Slovakia and allegedly is an "enemy" to it. This is due to the cessation of gas transit from Russia through Ukrainian territory since the beginning of this year.

Additionally, Prime Minister Fico expressed dissatisfaction with the Ukrainian president's proposal to start gas transit to Europe from Azerbaijan.

During a meeting of the economic committee of parliament, Fico once again threatened to block the decision to provide assistance to Ukraine from Slovakia.

Moreover, prior to this, Fico also threatened to stop electricity exports to Ukraine. Additionally, he previously promised that Slovakia would significantly reduce assistance to Ukrainian refugees.
