Energy expert Oleg Popenko, head of the Consumers' Union of Utility Services, stated on the air of Day.LIVE that previously the country could have purchased gas at significantly lower prices.
According to him, "Naftogaz" had the opportunity to buy gas at $300 per thousand cubic meters, but delays in decision-making led to an increase in costs to $550–600 per unit.
Despite the decrease in reserves, Popenko assured that a complete shutdown of heating supply is not anticipated. However, in response to the situation, authorities may implement temporary restrictions to balance supply and demand.
The situation also highlights the growing challenges in Ukraine's energy sector, especially under winter conditions and pressure from adversaries. Officials have not yet announced specific measures, but consumers may need to prepare for potential adjustments in gas distribution to avoid disruptions.
