Ingredients:
Fresh lard.
Water.
Salt.
Garlic (minced or chopped).
Bay leaf.
Pepper (optional).
Preparation Instructions:
Start by cutting the lard into pieces that will fit into the neck of the jar you are using.
In a pot, add water and salt, and bring it to a boil to create a brine.
You can either chop the garlic into pieces or mince it, depending on your preference.
Layer the lard, garlic, bay leaf, and pepper in the jar. Pour the cooled brine over the top to cover all the ingredients. Seal with a lid.
Then, place the jar in the refrigerator for about 5 days to allow the flavors to meld.
After 5 days, remove the lard from the brine and place it in the freezer for long-term storage. This method will not only make the lard tender and flavorful, but also soft and perfect for any dish you choose to use it in.
