In Derhachi, they bid farewell to a soldier who lost his life in the Donetsk region.

Today, January 14, the community of Derhachi said goodbye to Yevhen Herus, who lost his life on January 9 during battles near the village of Yasenove in the Donetsk region.

This was reported by Vyacheslav Zadorenko, head of the Derhachi city military administration, as conveyed by "Dumka".

According to Zadorenko, the deceased was a junior sergeant in the 151st separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was born in Derhachi, where he lived and graduated from Lyceum No. 2, later studying at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, majoring in "Marketing".

Before the war, Herus worked as a first-class security guard for credit and financial institutions with the police detachment and as a driver at the Derhachi district state veterinary medicine hospital. At the onset of the full-scale invasion, he became a volunteer and subsequently joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In February 2024, he completed training at the Military College of Non-commissioned Officers of the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachny.

"He defended our country in various areas of the front and had the specialty of a mechanic in the automotive technical service department. He was strong, determined, positive, responsive, and a kind person. At the time of his death, he was 39 years old," the statement read.

The townspeople accompanied the defender on his final journey at the Glory Alley of the Semenivka cemetery. He is survived by his wife Oksana, daughter Diana, mother Anna, father Vitaliy, and brother Serhiy.
